In our Museum Café you can enjoy Fair Trade coffee, a lunch menu inspired by the collection, a glass of wine or Alkmaar beer. In the summer you can relax on the terrace with a view of the Sint Laurenskerk and the square. You can visit the café and the museum shop without buying a ticket for the museum.
The Museum Café is the best spot in Alkmaar to meet up and enjoy a wide variety of products. There is a story behind almost every item on the menu and, where possible, a note about the organic ingredients from the surrounding area. Focus displays of work from the collection are staged in the café.
Coffee, lunch or a drink
The Museum Café is open from 11.00 a.m. for coffee, espresso or cappuccino. The tart – which we call ‘Soet’ – tastes like grandma use to bake: delicious and made with all natural organic ingredients. As well as coffee and lunch you can enjoy a glass of good wine or drink a ‘Schutter’s beer’. You can also order a ‘Schutter’s board’ of snacks to enjoy with your drink.
Museum Café opening times
Tuesday to Sunday from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Openness, light and the colours of the dunes (grey-blue, sand brown, moss green) set the mood. The showcases are filled with china and pottery from the museum collection and archaeological discoveries from the soil of Alkmaar. Most of the objects on display have something to do with food and drink. You can’t eat them, but they’re really good to look at...
That in our Museum Café and Shop we work with a team of enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers?
We buy as much as we can from small local shops and we usually use bicycles to collect what we buy. We have recently planted our own mini herb garden. The produce we use for our dishes is organic and we use seasonal ingredients as far as possible.

Some of the dishes on the menu may differ because we use seasonal produce. Please let us know if you have a food allergy.
