150 years of collecting
There is a lot to see in the image bank. From the large militia paintings by Caesar van Everdingen to the smallest object in the collection, a doghouse with a keeshond inside. Not everything shown in the image bank is actually displayed in the museum.

By 1871, the collection had grown so much that the establishment of a city museum became necessary. Four years later, the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar opened its doors. It is one of the first museums of the Netherlands and the proud expression of a self-confident city that cherished its glorious history.

Loan requests
For loan requests, please send a letter of request to the attention of Marrigje Rikken, director, at least six months before the desired start date. For completeness, we would like to receive the request accompanied by an exhibition plan and a facility report.
Images
Not all images are free of image rights, which is why the images are not yet free to download. The paintings of the Bergen School, for example, are still subject to image rights, and use of the paintings from the Nijenburg collection always requires permission from the descendants.
Would you like to request an image of an object from the collection? Please send an e-mail to registrar@museumalkmaar.nl. State the reason for the request, and the object number of the image to be requested.
