Frequently Asked Questions
When is the museum open and how do I buy tickets?
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays, King's Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Tickets are easily purchased online via the ‘Buy tickets’ or at the cash register.
What does a ticket cost?
Current admission prices can be found on the page ‘Times and Prices’ on our website.
Here you will also find other visitor conditions. This is how we make sure everyone feels at home in the museum.
Is the museum accessible to people with disabilities?
Sure! The museum is easily accessible. There is a ramp at the entrance, an elevator to all floors, an adapted restroom on the first floor, and two wheelchairs are available.
Accompanying persons of visitors with disabilities are allowed in free of charge. A wheelchair or folding chair can be reserved by calling 072-5489789. Assistance dogs are allowed in the museum. Unaccompanied dogs are not allowed
May I photograph in the museum?
Photography without flash or tripod is permitted unless otherwise indicated at a specific exhibit. Prior written permission is required for commercial use or professional shoots. Please contact us at pers@museumalkmaar.nl
Are there tours or other activities?
Yes! Tours, workshops and family activities are organized regularly. Check out the ‘Activities’ or contact us at reserveren@museumalkmaar.nl for more information or a customized tour.
Can I bring food and drink?
Food and drinks may only be consumed in the foyer. In addition, you can of course visit our museum café for lunch, coffee and something sweet.
Where can I park and how do I get to the museum?
Canada Square can only be accessed by car before 11 a.m. or with a parking permit. There are disabled parking spaces in the Mill neighborhood. Get out at the library on Gasthuis Street, about a 100-meter walk from the entrance. That entrance is accessible via a ramp. See the page ‘parking‘ for more information. Prefer to go by bike? There is an indoor bicycle storage area under Canada Square.
What's on display in the permanent collection?
In our permanent exhibition ‘All Alkmaar‘ discover centuries of Alkmaar history, with masterpieces by Caesar van Everdingen, and Pieter Saenredam, among others. In addition, Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar has a permanent exhibition on the Bergen school.
What temporary exhibitions are on display now and soon?
Currently, the exhibition is “Longing for Egmond” on view (June 28-November 2, 2025), including free walk-in tours. Starting December 4, you can visit the exhibitions ‘Alkmaar in focus’ & ‘Marc Ruyrok‘ view.
Can I book a tour for children or schools?
Sure! We offer educational programs for primary education, secondary education, MBO, HBO and NT2. There are also fun children's activities for families. Mail to reserveren@museumalkmaar.nl for more information or to book something.
