The Cloud

October 5, 2025, Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar will celebrate its 150th anniversary. A celebration that we would like to celebrate with the city and all its residents. To mark this special moment, we present a festive decoration of our facade. The Cloud: a work of art created in co-creation with 150 young people from Alkmaar, under the guidance of various artists and based on the idea of the Youth Department of Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar. 

Every night the cloud lights up and rains it compliments passersby. The youth department collected these compliments by asking 150 Alkmaar youth the question, “What would you like to say to your own reflection?” 

Under the guidance of several artists, the youngsters took this cloud of compliments and created this interactive work of light art: The Cloud created. 

The Cloud can be seen on the facade of Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar from October 15, 2025 through February 15, 2026.
