Why Visible Thinking in the classroom?
Visible Thinking was developed by Ron Richhart, a researcher at Harvard University. The premise was to make the classroom a place where students not only take and rehearse the material, but to develop a culture where thinking becomes "visible.
To achieve this "thinking culture," "thinking routines" have been developed. Short viewing, doing and thinking tasks suitable for exploring ideas on any topic. The routines are easy to implement in the classroom and suitable for all ages and audiences. It creates more engagement and fun for students, as well as a deeper understanding of class material.
At Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, we use VT to observe art and discuss it with each other in a fun way. It responds to (21e -century) skills such as collaboration, analysis, communication and (learning to) see from different perspectives.
This workshop introduces teachers to VT and teaches them how to implement it in their own classrooms. To do this, everyone will be given a card set with 10 routines to use in the classroom.
