Gestel and De Smet: curatorial lecture for the Kring Bergen School

Thursday, May 28

Retrieved from Thursday evening, May 28 the museum is organizing a special curatorial lecture to accompany the exhibition Gestel and De Smet - Colorful friendship. The lecture will be given by guest curator Kees van der Geer (MA).

Much was already known about the life and work of Leo Gestel and Gustave De Smet, but their mutual influence, especially during difficult and vulnerable periods, had not previously been extensively researched. Thanks to the thorough research of guest curator and author Kees van der Geer, new insights have emerged. He found previously unpublished letters and combined them with recently discovered archival material, revealing new connections between the artists. Thanks in part to this research, several works from private collections could also be brought together for the exhibition.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. Register by filling out the form below.
