Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar is strongly embedded in the city and region, with a high-quality collection and exhibitions of (inter)national significance. With three program lines - old masters of the 16th and 17th centuries, early 20th-century art around the Bergen School and contemporary and cultural-historical themes - we offer a multifaceted selection and aim to inspire and connect a broad and diverse audience with art, culture and history. The museum is currently working hard on expansion plans that will allow it to strengthen its name as the art museum of North Holland North.
The Program and Collection Department is responsible for the museum's substantive impact and consists of eight employees, interns and one volunteer, divided between collection (management), education and participation, curators and project management presentations.
For this department, the museum is looking for a
Head of Program and Collection
for 28-32 hours per week
What will you do?
- You will develop strategy and policies in the areas of collection, collection management and exhibitions, and public, education and participation programs.
- You translate strategic objectives and policies into substantive choices, annual plans and work processes, which you record and monitor.
- You will be part of the management team and connect the disciplines within your department to the other sectors within the museum.
- You coach and manage a multidisciplinary team where you create opportunities and encourage team members in their development.
- You will build and maintain external networks within the museum field, social institutions and other stakeholders such as collectors and governments

- You have extensive experience in the museum field and preferably experience developing policies and programs and working on projects.
- You are an open and connecting leader.
- You enjoy switching between strategy and operations.
- You draw energy from the dynamics and complexity of the cultural world and have an eye for relevant developments inside and outside the museum.
- You are able to prioritize and manage for consistency.
- You are decisive, creative and enjoy taking the initiative.
What do we offer you?
- A gross monthly salary between €4,532 and €7,093 (museum collective bargaining agreement, scale 12/13 based on 36 hours), plus 8% vacation allowance and 3.4% year-end bonus.
- 28 days off (based on full-time employment).
- A pension plan through Pension Fund ABP.
- Travel reimbursement in accordance with Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar regulations.

- The appointment is initially for one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.
