Head of Facilities and Security

Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar is an enterprising art and cultural history museum with a high-quality collection and exhibitions of (inter)national significance. The museum receives approximately 60,000 visitors annually. With three program lines - old masters, Bergen School and contemporary themes - we offer a versatile selection and want to introduce, inspire and connect a broad and diverse audience with art, culture and history of Alkmaar and the region. The museum is currently working hard on expansion plans with which it can strengthen its name as the museum of the north of the Netherlands where world-class art can be seen. 

The Facilities and Security Department is responsible for the technical management and internal maintenance of building, installations, security systems and infrastructure. Furthermore, the department takes care of the safety of our collection, visitors and employees. The department consists of the teams Reception & Security (nine persons) and Facilities (two persons). Both teams have a coordinator. 

For the Facilities and Security Department, the museum is looking for a  

Head of Facilities and Security for 24-28 hours per week

What will you do? 

  • Together with the department, you develop multi-year policy and the annual plan in the areas of facility management, housing, ICT infrastructure and security and give it form and content at strategic and tactical levels. As budget holder, you prepare budgets and manage the departmental budget;  
  • You are part of the management team and connect the disciplines within your department to the museum's museum mission. In doing so, you will look beyond the boundaries of your own department. 
  • You provide coaching leadership to employees to facilitate them in independent and results-oriented work.    
  • You will be responsible for the efficient organization of the department and ensure the recording and monitoring of work processes in the various task areas. 
  • You will be responsible for company emergency response and security.  
  • You initiate, encourage and work toward further sustainability of museum and other operations. 
  • You will liaise with the Real Estate Department of the Municipality of Alkmaar, cultural institutions, security partners and suppliers.  
  • You are jointly responsible for the intended spatial expansion of Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar.  

What do you bring? 

  • You are an open and people-oriented manager, who creates overview for the department and easily switches between strategy and operational matters. 
  • You have a minimum of five years of proven leadership and relevant work experience. 
  • HBO working and thinking level, preferably completed an education in technical business administration or similar. In addition, knowledge of integral security or security management. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with installations, ICT, lighting, security systems and quality management. 
  • Knowledge of and multi-year experience with change processes and implementation of business management policies in a medium-sized organization.   
  • You are creative, decisive, work systematically and are solution-oriented. 
  • You are familiar with the workings of an MT and understand the dynamics and complexity of a museum's field of operation.  
  • You are able to prioritize and manage for consistency. 
  • You have an affinity for the cultural sector. A museum background is a plus. 

What do we offer you?  

  • We offer a dynamic and challenging work environment, with room to develop yourself.  
  • The salary is gross min. € 4,131 and max. € 5,516 per month based on 36 hours (scale 11 Museum collective bargaining agreement). 
  • A vacation allowance of 8% and a year-end bonus of 3.4%. 
  • Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar uses the Museum collective bargaining agreement and is affiliated with the ABP pension fund. 
  • In addition, we have a favorable travel allowance. 
  • A laptop and phone allowance.  
  • A free Museum Card with admission to 450 museums in the Netherlands. 
  • The appointment is initially for one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.
