Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar exists 150 years

In 2025, Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar will celebrate its 150th anniversary. We will celebrate this with a festive decoration of the museum building, among other things. On October 15, we will literally hang the garlands outside in the form of an artistic production by Alkmaar youth. 

During last MuseumNacht Alkmaar, 150 young visitors took turns locking themselves in the toilet. There they were asked to have a phone conversation while watching their own reflection. This led to very special conversations.

Some of these participants created an artistic production in 3 co-creation sessions, under the guidance of different artists. The production is inspired by the conversations of the Night and will show off on the façade as well as the square from October 15 : THE DAY OF THE YEAR.

Important information: Especially in the evening after sunset, this work comes alive. 150 Years Young is an exhibit that will light up on the outside of our museum after hours.
