Egmond through your eyes - landscape in watercolor

What will Egmond look like in 2025 ... or even in the distant future? In this interactive part of the exhibition Longing for Egmond at the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, visitors paint their own landscape of Egmond, inspired by the artists at the center of the exhibition.

At the end of the nineteenth century, painters George Hitchcock and Gari Melchers moved to Egmond. They were inspired by the special light, nature and people in the village. In the summer months, artist friends joined them to capture the landscape together.

Later, Hitchcock founded the Art Summer School, where he mentored artists in painting the Egmond landscape. This led to diverse interpretations of the landscape.

In this contemporary version of Hitchcock's Art Summer School, we take new inspiration. At various work stations within the exhibition, visitors can paint their own landscape in watercolor. What does your favorite Egmond look like - now or perhaps in the future?

Your postcard in the museum
All the sketches and watercolors together form a new, contemporary image of Egmond through the eyes of a new generation of artists, just as in the Art Summer School of around 1900. The artworks will be displayed on the presentation wall in the studio. Of course, you may also take home the self-made postcard.

Nice bonus: Retrieved from July 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20 & Aug. 23, 30, 31 there is of 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. a museum docent present in the Art Summer School. They will help you on your way , just as Hitchcock did with his students, in the Egmond landscape.
